Marshall's recipe includes sauteing the traditional vegetables with bacon. The addition of Gouda cheese to the mashed potato topping also adds great flavor.
In a large skillet or saute pan, saute bacon until almost crispy. Add green pepper and saute with bacon until green pepper is done. Add corn and lima beans to finish the succotash. In another medium skillet, saute hamburger, mushrooms and onion until done. Strain and place into a large glass casserole dish. Add gravy over top and spread succotash mixture over all. Boil potatoes until mashable. Drain and add desired amounts of milk, salt, pepper and butter with grated Gouda cheese. When fully mashed, spread mixture over succotash mixture. Bake 20-25 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
