This classic salad with layers of leafy greens, peas, bacon and chopped egg, is "frosted" with a mayo mixture, chilled and tossed just before serving.
Arrange in a large to extra-large clear glass bowl in the order given; do not toss or add salt and pepper. Combine dressing ingredients; spread or "ice" the salad, sealing dressing to edge of bowl. Cover and chill. You may be creative and decorate top with sliced eggs, fresh herb sprigs, or other decorative substitutes. Toss just before serving.

Notes from the Cook: This is our family's all-time favorite. It has become a yearly tradition at our house, both at Thanksgiving and Christmas, since my husband's mother served it to her family 40 years ago.
