Thimble Cookies

This cookie dough contains shortening, brown sugar, egg, flour, baking powder and soda. It's shaped into balls, and has a "dent" in the center (perhaps from a thimble) and a candied cherry is set on top.

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup shortening
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 3 or 4 Tbsp. cold water
• 2 cups flour
• 1/2 tsp. salt
• 2 tsp. baking powder
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• Candied cherries, halved

Directions:

Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg, vanilla, and cold water. Add dry ingredients. Mix and roll into small balls. Press a dent in center of each cookie and put a cherry half in the center. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

Number of Servings: about 20 cookies
